FPSH 20th Anniversary

Almost unbelievable! The Foundation for the Pure Spanish Horse is Celebrating its 20th Anniversary this year!

In 1998, a small Board of Directors, with enormous help from P.R.E. Breeders, Owners and Friends, formed a not-for-profit corporation dedicated uniquely and solely to the Pure Spanish Horse. Then, the fun began!

Over the years the FPSH benefited from incredible donations of time, energy and, importantly, funding. Our Members contributed ideas, event locations, many hours of hard work, along with great spirit and enthusiasm for the Breed.

In line with the Foundation’s Mission the FPSH:

  • Introduced Revision and Inscription activities to U.S. Breeders under the tutelage of Cria Caballar representatives D. Juan Carlos Altamirano, D. Juan Llamas Perdigo, and TCOL José Bobi Miguel.
  • Brought the Comisiones de Valoración to the U.S. to begin the now well-established Revision Process of P.R.E. Horses.
  • Published the Breeders Book, a Guide for Breeders (an idea recommended by Mike and Connie Connelly, information collected and edited by Mike and Connie and printed by their company).
  • Established the P.R.E. Magazine (an idea recommended by Linda and Dick Nickerson, artistically produced by Linda and printed by her family). The FPSH combined forces with the IALHA to expand magazine production with the new “Iberian Horse” Magazine.

The Foundation made it a priority to sponsor talented P.R.E. Horses in open jumping and dressage competitions, and support demonstrations / exhibitions around the U.S.; participate in fairs, EqWest (Equitana West), Renaissance Faires, among others.

We were particularly fortunate to be recognized by Historian D. Juan Carlos Altamirano who awarded us use of the original Spanish Horse Emblem. He discovered the Brand during his extensive research into the Cartujano Horse. His work resulted in publishing numerous books on P.R.E. History that had been buried for hundreds of years. He offered this Brand as a badge in honor for work the FPSH was doing in the U.S. for the Pure Spanish Horse. The Emblem became and has remained our Logo.

The Foundation has also been called upon to rescue Spanish Horses found to be in dire straits – and we have applied whatever help we are able to offer.  We have provided protection and promotion for the Spanish Horse in the U.S. (regardless of the circumstances or participation of the Owners) while always trying to provide a center where Owners can communicate with each other.

All these years later we are enormously grateful to individuals around the U.S. and the world who offered assistance, encouragement, and shared our hope for a better world where the horse of choice in everyone’s stable would be a Pure Spanish Horse.

The Directors THANK each of you for your help.  We promise to continue our Mission to Protect and Support the Pure Spanish Horse. Please join us in Celebrating by sending us your ideas for improvement as we move into the next 20 years!!

2018 Stallion Auction - Bidding Ends March 1

Breed to the Best!   biddingowl.com/PREHORSE
The Annual Stallion Service Auction is ending March 1 and the bidding is heating up.

It has been a slow breeding year, but with the economy beginning to take off and prospects for the next few years promising, this is a good time to increase our P.R.E. Breed. There won’t be a better time in the foreseeable future to find a potential opportunity for exceptional breeding. The Stallions at offer are some of the best in the world.

We are getting additional front page exposure for this Fundraiser on CharroUSA.  Thank You Gustavo Casillos!!!

P.R.E. Mundial Spring Revision - Update

The Registry is currently designating sites for Spring Revision. We have narrowed the sites down to these areas...
• Southern California (possibly two days)
• Alberta Canada (possibly 2 sites)
• Dallas / Fort Worth (two days)
• Ocala, FL and Orlando, FL

There have been requests for Revisions in Alabama, New Mexico, Washington State, Colorado and Maryland, but so far there are not enough horses to fill these Revision sites.

We are still taking applications. Hopefully these horses can be Revised. We are investigating options to overcome the great distances that make Revisions in the Americas a little more difficult than has been encountered in Europe in the past. We will keep you informed of our progress in this area. Please know that we are dedicated to U.S. Owners and Breeders.

Please notify the Registry now if you want to Revise your horse. Contact Cristina Roland at Registry@PREhorse.org.

Instagram... Participate! Here’s How

Have you ever been discussing the P.R.E. Breed and get a blank look from what you thought was an otherwise normal “horsey” person? AndaROOsin? Apalossian? PER?

If so, you know there is a lot of work to be done to bring the knowledge of our Breed to the general public. You can spread the word about the Foundation with photos of your beautiful P.R.E. Horses. Just post your photos on Instagram and follow the Foundation with this link:  https://www.instagram.com/prehorsefoundation/

You can add existing photos and videos on your smart phone as well as taking new photos and videos with your smart phone. You will find uploading to Instagram is fun and habit forming. As of January 2018 we have 154 followers. That could grow to be 154,000 followers who know and love the P.R.E.

It really will help to get our mission out in front of millions of people who really NEED to know about our wonderful horses.
And yes, there’s an APP for that.

Grace and Gabriella Vincze (15 & 13 ) - Thousand Oaks, CA
Eric and Kristen Sandefur’s horse GF Relampago (Goodrich Andalusians in Baker City, Oregon) is featured in the current edition of Western Horseman. Relampago or “Bolt” won the two-rein ranch horse competition at the Early Californios Skills of the Rancho last summer under rider Grace. Both she and her sister Gabrielle have been competing in Bridle Horse Competitions.

Kristy Sandefur said “It’s always fun to see one of our horses out doing something different! We must have many horses of our Breed competing in areas that Western Horseman would relate to. These horses naturally excel at working with the rider and have great mobility and trainability.”

Relampago’s barn name “Bolt” comes from a hind leg marking that looked to the Sandefurs like a lightening bolt. “He has such a beautiful temperament it never occurred to us that the name might be taken in a different light! When we did we just had to laugh.”

Grace says she has ridden “so many different horses in my life” but both girls want to own their own Iberian Horses someday.

Ari Mostov
You may remember Ari as the teen who won an Essay contest the Foundation ran 10 years ago. The prize for her composition was the beautiful Zamarra P.R.E. Mare. She has been in the newsletter a lot recently, but then she has been busy. Ari recently sent us an update – she is getting married!

She has this to say:  “Just had to share these pics we took of our engagement shoot featuring Zamarra. I still can't believe I've had her for nearly 10 years! We went from wild kids to super star adults and it's a journey I will forever be grateful for.”
